Abstract
Purpose: The objective of this study is to identify and classify the roles of public libraries in the growth and development of small businesses.
Methodology: The meta-synthesis method is an appropriate method for obtaining a synthesis of studies conducted in this field based on their interpretation and translation; the method of this research is qualitative in terms of data collection and fundamental in terms of purpose. In order to achieve the purpose of the article, Sandelowski and Barroso's seven-stage model has been used to obtain a comprehensive synthesis of the research topic based on qualitative studies.
Findings: The findings indicate that public libraries can be influential in the development of small businesses with 7 effective roles: educational services, literacy, human skills development, information, consulting and reference, technology, space, and facilities.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, public libraries can create a major transformation and move towards an economic impact model by reviewing their service processes in order to gain an appropriate place in development programs and achieve self-sufficiency in the development of small businesses. Today, libraries can be gateways to business and commerce and operate in this field with their existing facilities and resources.
Value: So far, a comprehensive meta-analysis study has not been conducted to identify public library services to small business owners over a wide time period, and most library-based studies have introduced a limited number of these services.
