Abstract

Purpose: The global education perspective is heavily influenced by technological change and universities are inevitably moving towards this new educational system. Understanding the importance of the introduction of technology on educational and research activities in universities, the present research seeks to identify digital transformation strategies in Tabriz University.
Methodology: This research has a qualitative approach and in the form of an interpretive paradigm. Thematic analysis strategy was used to analyze the obtained data. The data collection tool was semi-structured interviews with 21 professors and IT experts in the university, as well as online course providers in the university, which were selected purposefully and continued until data saturation. To validate the research model, two strategies of external review and pluralism were used.
Results: Digital transformation is an approach to changing the way of thinking about the education process, which improves the effectiveness and efficiency in providing learning educational services. Hence, it is necessary that appropriate strategies are taken into consideration and various tools and resources are provided to support universities.
Findings: The findings of the research showed that the digital transformation strategies in the university include: the needs of the digital university; learning and evolutionary development of education and research; digital transformation tools; Value creation for the university.
Originality/value: Considering the nature of service provision in universities and their contribution to the growth and development of society, changing the approach to using technology for university education can help in achieving its goals.
