Abstract
Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic posed unprecedented challenges for the scientific community, especially for specialists in Information & Library Science, prompting them to produce extensive data, evidence, and scientific publications and contribute to crisis management. The study aims to examine how these specialists contributed to global knowledge production on COVID-19 and to highlight the concerns and challenges addressed in their work,
Methodology: A total of 1,120 documents retrieved from the Web of Science were systematically analyzed and thematically categorized using text mining and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling. Visual representations of word clouds were generated for each extracted topic,
Findings: Scientific contributions were concentrated in seven thematic categories:
"Management of data, information, knowledge, and technology in response to the COVID-19 crisis"; "Infodemic management, information flow, and social media dynamics during COVID-19"; "Analysis of Scientific Outputs and Research Collaborations on the Coronavirus"; "Application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in health services and patient support during COVID-19"; "Changes in libraries and their services in response to COVID-19"; "Government performance in quarantine management during the COVID-19 crisis and citizens’ behavior, attitudes, and trust"; "Transformation of education, management of educational technologies, and the need for information literacy skills during COVID-19",
Conclusion: Tracking the scientific activities of specialists provides a clear perspective on the scientific community’s response to crises across various disciplines.
Originality/ Value: Based on the study’s findings, strategic ICT management and investment, awareness-raising, and education in information and digital literacy can support rapid and effective crisis management and reduce the digital divide.
