Abstract
Purpose: This study seeks to explore the implications of Iran's participation in international copyright protection conventions.
Methodology: A qualitative research design is employed, utilizing a meta-synthesis approach as outlined by Sandelowski and Barroso. The research draws from a statistical population of 4,937 documents, which include articles, research proposals, and theses in both Persian and non-Persian languages pertinent to the subject matter. Following a rigorous screening process that considered title duplication, accessibility of complete texts, relevance, and thematic alignment, 51 sources were ultimately selected for analysis.
Findings: The literature review revealed 36 concepts categorized into 10 themes related to economic consequences; 81 concepts across 19 themes concerning cultural consequences; 16 concepts grouped into 5 themes for political consequences; and 14 concepts classified under 2 themes for legal consequences.
Conclusion: Economically, accession may open up export opportunities and facilitate Iran's entry into the World Trade Organization, necessitating compliance with the TRIPS Agreement and the implementation of the Berne Convention regulations (Articles 1 to 21). Culturally, it would improve access to international works and bolster cultural identity. Legally, it would provide greater support for domestic creators, while politically, it would enhance the nation’s standing on the global stage. However, potential drawbacks include limitations on cultural freedoms, decreased access to new resources, increased costs for works, and the need to harmonize domestic laws with international standards.
Value: This research offers a detailed and organized examination of the consequences of Iran's accession, contributing to a topic that has been relatively underexplored in existing literature.
