Abstract

Objective: The present study investigated the structural similarity of information science subjects at the Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz with those in Iran and the world.
Methodology: Current research is considered a type of applied scientometrics study. The statistical population consists of research related to information science and epistemology published in the Web of Science database by researchers at the Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Iran and the world.
Findings: In the present study, before discussing the structural similarity and co-occurrence maps of information science subjects in the world, Iran and Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz were examined in the Web of Science database. Also, from 2006 to 2010, Shahid Chamran had the most structural similarity with Iran in different periods, with a structural similarity of 6.599%. Shahid Chamran, in the years 2016 and later, with a structural similarity of 5.375% in the field of information science, has conducted research in line with the world. Iran's structural similarity with the world has also had the highest similarity rate since 2016 with a structural similarity value of 11.92%.
Conclusion: Benchmarking domestic research topics against global research excellence highlights strengths and weaknesses in research approaches and policies, and ensures that the domestic research system is aligned with the latest global advancements. This enables policymakers to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to strengthen areas of strength, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of the quality and impact of domestic research.
