Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the research is to investigate the relationship pattern of research abilities and professional development with the mediating role of research motivation and self-efficacy in primary school
Method: The current research is a descriptive-analytical correlation type. The statistical population was 4269 primary school teachers of Kermanshah city in the academic year of 1402-1401, of which 352 were selected using the accessible method. The collection tools included Ayubi's professional development questionnaires (2014), Salehi's research self-efficacy (2011), Aramon, Sadeghi Arani and Saeed Ardarani's research capabilities (2009), and Salehi's research motivation (2011). The validity of the questionnaires was checked and confirmed by the supervisors and advisors, and their reliability was measured using Cronbach's alpha. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS and PLS software.
Findings: The results showed that research capabilities on teachers' professional development (p=0.009, β=0.336), research capabilities on teachers' research motivation (p=0.000, β=0.483), research capabilities on teachers' self-efficacy (p=0.000, β=0.908) β), motivation to research on professional development (p=0.000, β=0.368) and research self-efficacy on professional development (p=0.046, β=0.258) had a direct, positive and significant effect. Also, research capabilities had an indirect, positive and significant effect on professional development with the mediating role of research motivation (p=0.000, β=0.178) and research capabilities on professional development with the mediating role of research self-efficacy (p=0.044, β=0.234).
Conclusion: Therefore, it can be said that any improvement in research abilities, motivation for research and self-efficacy in research will help the professional development of teachers.
